The Costa Mediterranea will come from Stockholm and the AIDAmar from Warnemünde in Germany. Both are owned by the world’s largest cruise operator Carnival Corporation. The Costa Mediterranea will sail on the Baltic Sea during the summer and arrive in Kotka again on 17 July.
Moreover, the port will host the Ms Amadea, which is 192 metres long and almost 25 metres wide. It will also cruise on the Baltic Sea after initially leaving Bremerhaven in Germany. Representing Phoenix Reisen, the Amadea will come from Tallinn to Kotka on 16 September, and from Kotka her voyage will continue to St Petersburg.
“We take care of the special arrangements related to the arrival of the luxury cruisers. Facilities such as sales, arrival and departure areas equipped with security arrangements as well as information areas will be built within the port area for the visitors. Moreover, the crews will be provided with their own facilities,” says Markku Koskinen, Director, Traffic Operations, of the Port of HaminaKotka.
The Costa Mediterranea and AIDAmar will bring a total of more than 5,300 cruise guests to the region. In addition, the crew members number more than 1,500. The vessels will stay at the Port of HaminaKotka for 10 hours, after which the voyage will continue towards St Petersburg.
The passengers are arranged excursions and activities in the Kotka-Hamina region and also in Porvoo and Helsinki. In addition, trips of 4 to 8 hours have been planned for independent travellers together with agents and shipping companies.
The project involves the Port of HaminaKotka, the towns of Kotka and Hamina as well as about 100 local entrepreneurs, organisations and associations. The project is co-ordinated in Kotka by the regional development company Cursor Oy.
